Komal Ashrafi is a Law Clerk at Shafer Partners, where she works on a broad range of civil litigation matters, including corporate and commercial disputes, general liability, premises liability, municipal liability, and transportation-related matters. She assists attorneys throughout the litigation process by conducting legal research, drafting pleadings and motion papers, managing discovery, preparing case evaluations, and assisting with deposition preparation, mediations, and settlement matters.
Prior to joining Shafer Partners, Komal worked at a New York civil defense firm, where she assisted with matters involving the New York City Transit Authority. Komal also has a background in entertainment and intellectual property law focused in copyright and trademark infringement matters involving individuals and corporate clients.
During law school, Komal gained judicial experience in both civil and criminal courts. She interned for the Honorable Bruce R. Cozzens of the Nassau County Supreme Court, where she observed conferences, mediations, and settlement negotiations involving personal injury and medical malpractice matters and prepared legal memoranda for the Court. She also served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable David J. Kirschner of the Queens County Supreme Court, Criminal Term, where she conducted legal research, prepared memoranda of law and findings of fact, and assisted in drafting a judicial decision.
Komal earned her Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, from Queens College, City University of New York
Outside of the office, Komal enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, and exploring her interest in fashion. She is an avid dog lover and rarely passes up an opportunity to make a new four-legged friend.
